The word “Alinghi” was invented by Ernesto as a child. It was a little word to say everything and nothing with his sister. His first dinghy was called “Alinghi”. The ‘A’ of Alinghi has now become a recognisable logo in the shape of a dial up.

Courageous, the third and last yacht to ever defend the America’s Cup twice, was selected by the New York Yacht Club to defend the 22nd America’s Cup.
Courageous was helmed by the colourful Ted Turner.
His chances of a successful defence, sailing in an old, albeit much modified yacht, were described by one reporter “as remote as the New York Yacht Club America’s Cup Committee appearing on the racecourse wearing skinny-legged blue jeans and motorcycle boots”. Courageous comprehensively beat Alan Bond’s Australia in four straight races.
