in 1995, Team New Zealand’s Black Magic defeated Stars & Stripes in the fifth race of the 29th America’s Cup match to win the America’s Cup. It was New Zealand’s first America’s Cup victory after 10 years and four challenges and was watched by 94% of the country’s 3.5m people. On board were Alinghi’s Brad Butterworth, Warwick Fluery, Murray Jones, Simon Daubney, and Dean Phipps in their first of three America’s Cup victories and their fifth of a record 15 consecutive America’s Cup race wins.
