In 1992, America³ owned and skippered by Bill Koch from Wichita, Kansas, won the fifth race by 44’ to successfully defend the America’s Cup 4-1 against Il Moro di Venezia, the first Italian yacht to race in an America’s Cup match. On board America³ was Alinghi pitman Josh Belsky for his first of two America’s Cup wins. America³ set new standards in terms of new technology and design methodology that have influenced all leading America’s Cup teams since.
