… in 1889, the Royal Yacht Squadron withdrew its challenge for the America’s Cup, filed on behalf of Lord Dunraven, over a disagreement about revisions made to the Deed of Gift by the New York Yacht Club in 1887. English yachtsmen believed the new terms where unsporting and refused to be bound by them should they win the America’s Cup. © Hamish Ross
